Fine Restaurant in Somerset
The food at the brue is superb, British with a continental twist, and is earning the restaurant an enviable reputation both locally and much further afield. This is arguably one of the finest restaurants near Somerton, Wincanton, Glastonbury, Street and Langport. Some say it's one of the best country restaurants in Somerset.
Andrew and Kelly have created two menus, the Restaurant Menu a broad ranging menu which also features light bites and the other, the Brue Classics, a regularly changing menu featuring classical British dishes. The focus is very much on sourcing locally from the West Country but many ingredients are also sourced from as close to the nearby River Brue as possible. If you're staying overnight or just passing, then the Breakfast Menu is certainly worth a look: the Traditional English Breakfast will probably be the best you've ever tasted!
The Brue Classics is particularly popular with local residents and visitors alike because it has featured such favourites as Butcombe battered fish and chips, steak and ale pie and sausage and mash. The beef, pork, lamb and chicken is all reared in Somerset and is all free range. All the fish is fresh from West Bay, Bridport, the nearest fishing port. All the vegetables and fruit are locally grown and are available when in season.
Also on the menus is the famous Lovington's Ice Cream from the neighbouring village of Lovington. From Maryland Farm in nearby Ditcheat comes Maryland cheese, including the signature cheeses, black waxed Farmhouse Mature Cheddar and green waxed Haystack Vintage Cheddar.
The service is always attentive and very friendly; Andrew and Kelly know how to look after you. The atmosphere is always so relaxing and dinner can become like a private party, especially when someone orders a 'Kellys Coffee Heaven' to finish, because everybody then wants one!
The brue is more a restaurant with rooms than a hotel because of the focus on exceptionally good food. This is why so many visitors to the area, perhaps visiting the Royal Bath and West Showground, the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Clark's Village, one of the many National Trust Properties nearby, Haynes Motor Museum or perhaps travelling west along the A303, enjoy such pleasant evenings at the brue.
